On the eve of the departure for Campobasso, hub of the Italian Cup 2023, coach Giampiero Ticchi spoke to microphones as follows: “The approach to Campobasso has seen us working in the loading phase last week to put gasoline in the engine, while this week we have dedicated ourselves to the more tactical aspects of this event.
The first game will see us immediately face Campobasso, which is strong with a very hot tifo since they are the only team playing at home, so it won’t be easy at all considering the away game will also take away some extra energy. They will have a lot of support that will translate into extra enthusiasm, also taking into account a graft like the one they made with a high-profile player.
The team? We have some slight injuries. The season has been long but I think we have the right motivation to go to Campobasso and do well.
Showing up as first can change because it gives you awareness, even if we haven’t won anything. We know that even in difficult times we can emerge as a group by coming out of the rough patches together. This result motivates us and gives us a lot of happiness, but also the right motivation.
The Italian Cup I think is a unique tournament, with several surprise results, so the indications it gives are to be taken with a grain of salt in view of the playoffs. The beauty of the Italian Cup is that maybe not the best wins but the one that is in the best shape or motivated at that moment.
The Euroleague? In September I would have said it would give us more fatigue than anything else. Instead, I now answer that it brought us a lot of resilience and experience, as well as the ability to play so many close games with so many close trips, keeping our levels high. The physicality and intensity that we have “learned” is also a plus that we have put inside our game.
To be first is to have established a record that must be standard from now: it was a goal achieved but it is only a mountain stage on the three peaks of Lavaredo, we must then get to Milan and win the time trial. We just have to give continuity and the girls who will go into the field are the protagonists.”
