LBA, Round12 | Coach Banchi’s postgame: “Small episodes that didn’t reward us, we had the chances to take it home”

Bologna –

After the game with Venice, coach Banchi spoke in a press conference, “We had difficulty approaching and interpreting the game. It happened almost entirely in the first half, when we gave the feeling of being disorderly, trying to rely on extemporaneous solutions, and at the beginning of the third period, when Venice came back on the court with more lucidity. In the final there was an important comeback, the result of the desire and will to bring home a game tied to small episodes that did not reward us: starting with the technical foul whistled on the throw-in, which has a value, as well as when we acquired a small three-point lead, ball in hand, we were whistled for an offensive foul in an obvious flop situation by the defender, a situation in which the reaction and not the action was whistled. Then we did not find order in the final, in moments that became nervous on either side. We wasted opportunities to bring home an important victory: now we reset, with the ability to renew our energy, next week we have two very tough matches awaiting us between Olympiacos, in Valencia and then in Pistoia, one of the hottest courts in the entire A Series. We will have to be able to reproduce the quality of play we need to compete at this level.”

“The schedule is compressed, we know, and injuries do not help us regenerate energy by being able to rotate more men. Serie A is a complicated league as is the Spanish league; there are few leagues in Europe where Euroleague teams always have to fight to win. However, we had the merit of almost winning a game that seemed instead already marked. Loose balls always went into their hands and that is not like us, as well as the offense that was sluggish and the ball did not turn.”
