These are the words of coach Sergio Scariolo in the postgame: “I want to thank our fans in the last home game because I think they had a great season. They accompanied a team that made them proud of the effort and commitment with which it played throughout the season and that had to overcome dramatic moments due to injuries, even for many months, but never lowered its head and managed once it regained a level of health, a good level of competitiveness. So again thanks to our fans for the whole season, even tonight, then little to say. We defended well, attacked as a team, no need for heroics, feats, but simply applying the game plan and sharing the ball as it should be done. Especially after the first quarter the defensive energy was appropriate to the circumstance. Now we will rest a bit preparing for the next one.
Of Cordinier I can only say good, excellent player, he is growing on the other side of the court because he has always been an excellent player on the defensive side. I had been seeing him for a long time: internally we had no great doubts about his qualities and his room for improvement, and I rejoice that even now he can have some recognition after he was massacred, staying almost 4 months stationary, so he definitely had bad luck. He also never put his head down but came back with a great attitude.
Weems? I want to see him again. Decisions are still far from being made, but if it was Weems’ last game at Virtus, I can only say that I was lucky to have coached this person, as well as this player, these past two years. If I don’t have to coach him anymore he will surely remain in a really small group of people of superior quality who are able to express leadership, attachment, after it’s two months that he doesn’t play but he’s the first to arrive, to incite, always with the correct body language: a very classy player and person.
For Game 7 we will think about it because we just finished Game 6. We will review it, we will reason about the things we did and we will try to foresee the adjustments they will make: we will have to prepare ourselves to go with a lot of serenity, a lot of peace of mind for this game, where we don’t have a great weight on our shoulders in terms of responsibility but we have a desire, a desire, to continue to compete with great pride as we have done until now.”
