Bologna, October 4 –
EuroLeague Women, 1st round.
Virtus Segafredo Bologna vs KGHM BC Polkowice: 90-69.
(1Q 23-20; 2Q 45-39; 3Q 76-58.)
At the end of the first win of the new EuroLeague Women’s season against Polkowice, these were the words of Coach Vincent: “We keep winning and I am happy about that. However, we have to keep looking at the things we can improve, and that is also good because we have so much to improve and the future for us is interesting. I’ve been fielding a lot of games and we struggle a little bit to understand the goals, but now for two or three days you can see it’s much better. We struggled in the beginning to figure out how to exploit Cecilia and adapt games, she is really important for us. We did a great job on the pick and roll and turnovers, we scored almost always on turnovers by putting the ball in. We don’t have long ones who are post up players, however on the turnovers we can exploit that advantage because they are all shooters. This we did well, but let’s work on this from the beginning. This part was missing with Cecilia, we found games for her and I am really happy about that. All games are different, the difficulty is, as I told the girls, to never underestimate any team. There are always problems to deal with, we have a new challenge and we have to prepare it well from a tactical point of view to go ahead with the season, to be ready on offense and defense and to be ready from start to finish.”
Captain Cecilia Zandalasini also spoke to the postgame microphones: “We had a great game, we were all focused from the first minute and it’s clear that playing with this crowd always gives a lot of drive. We were good even when they tried to get back into the game, we never gave up and we made the right choices both on offense and defense. A very good match to start a long Euroleague. It was nice to have so many people here to see us and we hope to continue like this, I always try to do the best to help my team and win as many games as possible.”
