First win in the Euroleague for Virtus Segafredo. After the game, these are the declarations to the microphones of coach Sergio Scariolo:
“We’re happy for the first win after so many years, and obviously it was a very close game. They have great players, with a lot of experience in this competition. We probably won by doing two or three things well, with defence and good shooting, especially when we had transitions in our favour. Bayern, we knew, is a tough team and well prepared by a very good coach so I think the guys were fantastic from start to finish, especially in defence. In attack I don’t think there were any problems but we got stuck at times. Generally our experience in the Euroleague, which for many is their debut, is positive so far. I would also like to thank our fans who once again created an incredible atmosphere, but now head to the next one. I am satisfied with the attitude: we insisted on physicality and intensity last week. From the point of view of physical impact, last week we hadn’t done our best and today we showed that we know how to do much better. Today we conceded a few too many lost balls that led to points in transition. We have to grow in many ways, but we have the right attitude day by day. The returnees have been important for us, just look at Teosodisc. Mikey had a bad night, but he is a reference point for the group. Lundberg and Todosic together? Munich played a lot with three small ones, so we had that possibility. They are two players who can play together, maybe with a three. We simply have to work out who is best on the court. We have a lot of guards, so there is a possibility that they all play in shifts: everyone has to be a team player and be professional. In the game we were not quick to take advantages and the attacks were sometimes stagnant but Monaco did not find easy baskets. This is the Euroleague and this is what we need to do. Hackett, Teodosic and Lundberg together I don’t think they are usable in the same arc of the game for many minutes, but finding the right combination is what we work on from day to day. When they were on the court they were facing a very small team, but when they are not they don’t become the best solution. We were good on the defensive changes that we prepared during the week, even if during the game you may not be very lucid to apply what you have studied.”
