Daniel Hackett is the Best Defensive Player Pall-Ex of the Month for April in the Serie A Unipol 2024/25

Bologna –

Virtus Segafredo Bologna ended its month of April with a record of four wins and zero losses, confirming its position at the top of the standings along with the other undefeated team, the Trapani Shark. This result is the result of balance and solidity on both halves of the court, embodied perfectly by the contribution of Daniel Hackett, named best defender of the month for the occasion. It’s not just a matter of statistics, but of presence.

The class of 1987 led the Felsinians with a constant intensity, making himself the protagonist of a defensive effort that goes beyond the numbers: continuous communication with teammates, intelligent readings on pick and rolls, attention in defensive changes and ability to take away rhythm from opposing outside players. A quiet but tangible leadership that made the difference in decisive moments and made the Virtus players unstoppable. At 37, Hackett continues to put his body where others falter: diving on loose balls, smartly spent fouls, timely help in the secondary. His experience has proved instrumental in cementing the defensive identity of a Virtus Bologna team that has allowed just 70.5 points on average in the month and an average spread of about +19.8 points, bringing home heavy victories (see the 91-79 win in the head-to-head clash with Germani Brescia) thanks in part to his dedication.

The best performance of the season came in the Palaverde challenge against NutriBullet Treviso Basket: 16 points (4/4 from two and 5/5 to the lunette), 8 assists, 5 rebounds, 5 fouls suffered, 1 rebound, 28 rating and an eloquent +16 plus/minus in 29 minutes played as sixth man. A complete game in which the Forlimpopoli native led the offense, but more importantly dictated the tempo and intensity in his own half of the court as well, containing one of the most dynamic backcourts in the league. The ‘best defensive player’ award is not just meant to celebrate athleticism or spectacular stoppage, but also and especially basketball intelligence, work ethic and the ability to make teammates better. In this, Daniel Hackett has been exemplary. A well-deserved recognition for a player who, even when the spotlight seems to be elsewhere, continues to be instrumental.
