Bologna, October 16 –
Virtus Pallacanestro Bologna S.p.A., with regard to the events that occurred on the night between 15 and 16 October involving Luca Vildoza and his wife, hereby issues the following statement.
The player and his wife, while driving home after the home game played at PalaDozza, believing themselves to be victims of unlawful behaviour by others, had an altercation with a healthcare worker travelling in an Italian Red Cross vehicle, who requested the intervention of a police patrol car, followed by the identification and application of legal measures against the athlete and his wife.
This morning, the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the Court of Bologna notified the parties of a decree of immediate release, without restrictions, signed by the Public Prosecutor, Dr Flavio Lazzarini, considering that there was no need for restrictive measures, with the prosecution waiving the summary trial originally scheduled for 12 noon today.
In-depth investigations are currently underway to ascertain what actually happened but, in view of the decree issued immediately by the Public Prosecutor, Virtus Pallacanestro Bologna S.p.A., assisted by Mr Mattia Grassani, expresses extreme confidence in the outcome of the ongoing defence investigations, which will be submitted to the competent authorities as soon as possible.
The player is therefore set to travel with the rest of the first team for the Euroleague away game in Lyon.
