New faces and confirmations for the two teams, men’s and women’s, of Virtus Segafredo Bologna, which is about to experience another busy season, starting with the Italian Supercup, which will see the men’s team in the semifinals against Milan on Sept. 23 and the women’s team in the semifinals against Venice on Sept. 22.
Jersey numbers have been made official for Virtus Segafredo Bologna men’s team, which will have Jaleen Smith wearing number 9, inspired by Rajon Rondo and his game. Dobric will wear number 13, as it happened in his years at Red Star while Mascolo will wear 14, a number that has always brought him luck in his experiences in Tortona and Brindisi. 15 goes to Devontae Cacok, always had in his four years at UNCW and a number retired from the very university where Blizzard also took his steps. 33 for Polonara and 42 for Dunston, “classic” numbers for the two former Efes players. Change in the running, however, for Iffe Lundberg, who will wear number 1.
No changes, however, for the women’s team, which among the newcomers will have Cox, who chose 11 in honor of her sister, also a basketball player; Peters, after evaluating the always beloved 33 in honor of Larry Bird, believes she is at a time in her career when her style of play is changing and will have 7, the number Bird himself had with the U.S. National Team jersey. 31 for Chiara Consolini, who, unable to choose “her” 4, opted for the number with which she played her first official games with the Italian national team jersey.
