Bologna, 16 November –
Thanks to the Dual Career path, the Virtus Segafredo Bologna player and Alma Mater student will also wear the Cus Bologna jersey. With next year’s European University Championships in sight
Cus Bologna is betting on women’s basketball and welcomes Olbis Futo Andrè, who with Virtus Segafredo Bologna participates in the A1 Women’s Championship and the EuroLeague Women, among its champions. Born in 1998, after obtaining a three-year degree, Olbis has now chosen to continue her studies at the University of Bologna. Taking advantage of the Dual Career path, which recognises the status of ‘student-athlete’, she can therefore also wear the University of Bologna jersey. With next year’s European University Championships (EUSA) in sight.
In preparation for the European University Championships to be held in Bologna in 2025, Cus Bologna has in fact decided to participate in the EUSA 2023 with both the award-winning men’s team and a women’s team. To this end, a scouting and player selection process has begun, with the invaluable support of Virtus Pallacanestro Bologna.
Welcoming Olbis Futo Andrè into the Alma Mater’s big sports family was Rector Giovanni Molari, who met her at the Rector’s Office together with Luca Baraldi, CEO of Virtus Segafredo Bologna, and the General Manager of Cus Bologna, Federico Panieri.
“I am very happy to be able to welcome such a great player as Olbis Futo Andrè to the University of Bologna community, and I thank Cus Bologna and Virtus for the joint work they have carried out and will continue to carry out together: it is a valuable synergy that we intend to cultivate,” said Rector Giovanni Molari. ‘Women’s basketball has been growing strongly for years now, and in this sense too, Bologna has confirmed itself as a true Basket City. I am certain as of now that the girls of Cus Bologna will bring the values of sport, which are also the values of study, to the court in the best possible way: generous commitment, the desire to improve, and the striving for results that is and must always be a team effort”.
“I thank the University and CUSB for their availability, it was a pleasure and an honour to personally meet the Rector and visit the Rectorate, a structure full of charm that impressed me greatly,” said Olbis Futo Andrè. “I found the projects and topics discussed during the meeting very interesting, and I believe that the student-athlete project is fundamental, as it allows all of us, who are often in difficulty due to professional commitments, to be able to combine our sporting career with our university career”.
