Virtus Segafredo Bologna announces to have reached an agreement until June 30, 2022 with Tornik’e Shengelia.
Virtus Segafredo Bologna CEO Luca Baraldi’s statement: “I think there are no more words to represent my personal feeling of thanks to our President Massimo Zanetti, for this latest market operation that announces the arrival of a great player like Toko Shengelia. Toko will increase even more the technical value and the experience both at national and international level of our roster. Also in this case the negotiation with the player’s representatives has been successfully conducted by our General Manager Paolo Ronci. Toko’s arrival, who showed his willingness to wear the Virtus Segafredo’s jersey despite other important offers, confirms Virtus Segafredo’s image in the European basketball panorama”.
A 206 cm big forward/center, Shengelia was born in Tbilisi (Georgia) on October 5, 1991.
He grows up in Valencia’s youth before making his debut in the first team in the 2008-2009 season and winning the Eurocup the following year.
Then, after two years at Spirou Charleroi, he’s selected by the Philadelphia 76ers who sell him to the Brooklyn Nets, where he plays the Summer League. In 2012 he signs a two-year deal with the Nets and is assigned to the Springfield Armor in the D-League. He ends his adventure overseas in the 2013/2014 season with the Chicago Bulls.
After 4 years in the United States, he decides to return to Europe, again in Spain: from 2014 to 2020 he wears the Baskonia jersey, becoming an icon of the Basque club with which he obtains the inclusion in the All Euroleague First Team in 2017/2018 and the conquest of the Spanish Championship in the 2019/2020 season.
From the following season, the move to CSKA Moscow where he wins a Championship and a Supercup.
