Coach Lino Lardo was interviewed on Radio Nettuno Bologna Uno: “There was some bitterness in the way we played but we did a great job. This year, the club has started to invest seriously and we are part of a great project. In the Coppa Italia, we played three great games against three great teams, because in addition to Venice, who will be playing in the F4 of the EuroCup, and Schio, who reached the final phase of the Euroleague, Campobasso is a very good team. The girls made themselves available, some in precarious physical conditions, and they were commendable.”
A final lost by showing character and group strength: “In the first half we suffered a lot from Schio who scored a lot even with difficult shots. In that moment we didn’t give up and we didn’t suffer a heavier partial. At halftime the girls were convinced to make it and not to give up until the end. The difference was a rebound that in the final allowed Schio to have the triple that maybe broke our legs. We bring a lot of good things, in the last 15 days we have trained well and a lot, the team is growing and it shows. But we remain calm and with our feet on the ground. We mustn’t get complacent, we are here and we hope to be ready for the crucial moment, without forgetting that besides Schio and Venice there are other healthy teams, like Lucca, Geas and Costa Masnaga itself that we will face on Saturday. This year’s championship is very competitive compared to previous seasons.”
On Sagerer: “We needed a graft in that role. I was struck by the energy with which she plays, she has some fundamentals almost from another era. On a technical level, she can give a lot, especially in offensive rebounding to alternate with Turner and we saw that in the Italian Cup. She’s a serious girl and she immediately joined the group”.
“For the end of the season I raise a message to the fans. I’ve heard many Virtus fans that thanks to this Coppa Italia have approached also the women’s team: we hope to see them at the Segafredo Arena because we could have fun.”
