Bologna –
University of Bologna Chancellor Giovanni Molari and Virtus Segafredo Bologna CEO Luca Baraldi signed the agreement to sanction the collaboration between the University’s School of Specialization in Sports Medicine and Exercise, directed by Prof. Paolo Caraceni, and Virtus Segafredo giving birth to an innovative training model, among the very first in Italy.
Thanks to the signed agreement and the mentoring activities by the bianconero medical staff, coordinated by Resp. San. Dr. Diego Rizzo, the doctors in specialist training will be able to acquire the best theoretical and practical knowledge on the figure of the team doctor, in a highly qualified environment. The agreement will also provide an opportunity to plan and implement initiatives aimed at promoting physical activity and sports as a tool for health and disease prevention in the population, in all age groups.
“Being able to train in a highly qualified environment such as that of a top professional basketball team is an extraordinary opportunity for future sports physicians”- said University Rector Giovanni Molari. – “Our trainees will be able to assist Virtus physicians, physiotherapists and athletic trainers in the management of both men’s and women’s teams: an innovative pathway, among the first in Italy, to acquire skills on the clinical evaluation of the athlete at rest and under stress, the optimization of athletic preparation, the diagnosis and therapy of sports injuries, issues related to doping and the identification of relative and absolute contraindications to professional sports activity. I thank Virtus CEO Luca Baraldi for believing wholeheartedly in a partnership that will see us united on other important areas as well.”
