The first occasion when we will see Virtus and the Foundation and Rizzoli take the court together will be the Dec. 16 game at the Virtus
Segafredo Arena against Venezia. On this day at the entrance to the building, fans will find a desk at which they can get information about the Foundation and its
projects, during the game films will be shown telling the stories of the Institute’s patients, and fans will find on the Arena seats a postcard through which they can donate to the Children’s Terrace project. In addition, a portion of the proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to support the Foundation.

“We are proud,” says Virtus Segafredo Bologna CEO Luca Baraldi, “to stand alongside the Rizzoli Foundation to support the campaign related to the Children’s Terrace. I am sure that the great bianconeri fa- miglia will support the initiative with great enthusiasm and with the sensitivity shown in the past towards these issues. This is not the first time that Virtus Segafredo has taken the field in support of important social initiatives for its community. As a Society, alongside our fans, we wish to continue to support realities such as the Rizzoli Foundation and the Rizzoli Institute, which strive every day to give a better future to their patients and their families. In particular, we are proud to support a project such as the Children’s Terrace, which was created with the intention of giving these girls and boys a moment of leisure at such a delicate stage of their lives.”

“We are very grateful,” comments Rizzoli Foundation President Federica Guidi, “for the opportunity offered to us and for the collaboration with Virtus Segafredo Bologna.
We are happy to be able to let all the team’s fans know about our reality and the projects we are carrying out. The Foundation was born only a year and a half ago, but in this short time it has already achieved important goals. This new collaboration gives us the opportunity to tell an audience, which we are sure will be sensitive, the story of the Foundation and that of the patients of the Rizzoli Institute to whom all our efforts are dedicated. We decided to illustrate first our most ambitious project, that of a terrace dedicated to long-suffering children with play, gathering and entertainment spaces. It is a project we care a lot about, and we hope Virtus fans will respond enthusiastically and help us realize this great goal.”

It involves the construction of about 800 square meters of new multi-purpose covered spaces on the terrace of the hospital monoblock that stands next to the monumental part of the Institute, dedicated especially to pediatric and oncology patients and their families to improve their sometimes prolonged and recurring stay in hospital.

“For us at Rizzoli,” comments Anselmo Campagna General Director of the IOR, “being able to take the field with the stories of our patients means telling through their voices and experiences what our hospital represents in the orthopedic field. For them, it is one more chance to heal the emotional wounds left by serious illnesses, thanks to the warmth of the audience and that of the players. The idea of the Children’s Terrace stems from the need to offer new spaces in the hospital that welcome young patients and their families in beautiful and functional environments for their needs to play, meet, and study, also equipping the Rizzoli’s School in Hospital, the first born in Italy, with better places. It is said that sports unites, and we deeply believe in this. We, who are so involved in sports, want to thank the generous community of Virtus Segafredo for opening the doors to this collaboration with the Rizzoli Foundation.”

At Rizzoli, 30 out of 100 patients are children, some forced into long periods of hospitalization during which they can continue to play, study, spend hours with their families and always look up. Through Virtus Segafredo channels, a story of care and life related to a patient who would find great comfort in the Terrace during his or her hospitalization period will be told each time. The first story we want to tell is Simone’s. Simone began playing basketball in Teramo’s under-19 team, a companion of a very young Achille Polonara, now a big winger for Virtus. At 17, Simone was diagnosed with bone cancer, between the ankle and the tibia. After a dozen rounds of chemotherapy, and more than
a year of hospitalization, amputation of the leg was inevitable. Today Simone plays for the Paralympic national basketball team and ASD Briantea 84. “I think for children, Terrace is a time to dream, to break that routine that is experienced during long periods in the hospital.”

The Rizzoli Orthopaedic Institute Foundation was born on June 28, 2022, from the initiative of nine entrepreneurs in the area with the aim of supporting the Rizzoli Orthopaedic Institute so that the medical care and assistance provided can be increasingly patient-friendly, contributing to research activities and the enhancement of the artistic and cultural beauty enshrined in the historic Institute. The Foundation’s project is ideally connected to the gesture with which Francesco Rizzoli in 1896 gave birth to the Institute. At its origin, in fact, there is a real act of philanthropy: Rizzoli donated his patrimony to the Province of Bologna to create a state-of-the-art orthopedic hospital at the service of all in the ancient monastery of San Michele in Bosco. Thanks to that gesture, today the Rizzoli is an Institute of Hospitalization and Treatment with Scientific Character (IRCCS) where care and treatment of orthopedic and trauma pathologies are intertwined with innovative research (regeneration of bone tissue, new treatments to fight tumors, creation of 3D prostheses and much more).

[307,268,256,248
308,269,265
post-63683","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-euroleague-en","category-primo-piano-en","category-a-league","category-news","tag-euroleague-en","tag-app-en","tag-evidence
["GET
