The first official trip of Rocketvan, the space ambulance of the Italian Red Cross Italian Committee of Bologna, wanted and built especially for Bimbo Tu, brought to Bologna Aron, an 8-month-old Eritrean child suffering from a severe form of spina bifida who with his mother landed yesterday at Milan Malpensa airport. Istituto delle Scienze Neurologiche di Bologna based at the Sant’Orsola Hospital in Bologna, who said, ” The child presents a lumbar mass of about 10 cm with loss of cephalospinal fluid that suggests an untreated form of spina bifida that requires rapid diagnosis and probable intervention within 24-48 hours. Therefore, we have indicated the need for urgent admission to I.R.C.C.S. Institute of Neurological Sciences Pediatric Neurosurgery in Bologna at Sant’Orsola Hospital, which will be made possible thanks to the collaboration of Prof. Lanari’s Emergency Pediatrics, Dr. Caramelli’s Pediatric Anesthesia and Resuscitation and Prof. Cordelli’s Neuropediatrics departments.
