Bologna, August 20 –
After the meeting, the first trainings and the presentation of the new black and white players, coach Sergio Scariolo spoke to the press during the conference for the start of the new 2021-2022 season.
The words of the black and white coach: “We worked with the club on the structure, the staff. To create the right conditions around the player, physical and mental preparation, prevention and recovery, dietary support. We wanted to take a step forward in the growth of the company at 360°. We wanted to create the conditions for the players to come here more and more willingly and to be followed in the right way, so that they can train and play with the utmost tranquility and professionalism. We leave for the week of retreat, it will also have the purpose of creating chemistry, sharing, common values and rules, for mutual respect.”
“You have to put the pillars so that the team knows how to play when there is not an organized situation, counterattack, transition, when the schemes do not work, this on offense. Tactical specialization will come later. Defensively, we want to be aware of being a team that creates opportunities for the opponent’s mistakes, not waiting for them. We have to put the opponent in the situation to make the worst possible shot and lose as many balls as possible. And then the rebounds, fundamental because whoever controls them controls the rhythm of the game. Once you force a mistake you have to know how to take advantage of it.”
“The moment Mannion turned down Golden State’s proposal, since the company had him as the first option and had already talked about it, this possibility of closing the conversation between us and the player occurred. We have always maintained contact, the company did well.”
“To Milos Teodosic we must not leave an excess of work, like all artists he must be put in the conditions to make the best with his art without getting excessively tired. Our idea is to always have two ball handlers on the court and with this in mind, Mannion and Pajola will share the duties. They are a very young couple, I don’t think there is a younger couple than them in world basketball and we are aware of the difficulties we might have initially but at the same time we are confident in their exponential growth.”
