Bologna –

Three games are waiting for Virtus to close the first half of the season with a ranking that momentarily sees it in second place with Reyer, who is however behind in direct matches. Before unwrapping the Christmas presents, however, the first thing to do is to solve the practice Geas Sesto S. Giovanni, with the victory that the Lombardy team has been missing for two rounds now after beating Moncalieri, breaking the taboo that always wanted the team defeated away from the friendly walls of Palacarzaniga.

At the helm of the rossonere, coach Zanotti has been able to find a good continuity after a limp start that did not allow to find that serenity, with some more points in the standings, to be fighting for something more than the tenth place occupied now, six points behind the bianconere. With the penultimate attack for percentage from inside the area, S.Giovanni has produced little more than 60 points on average in the last exits, despite Crudo looking down on everyone for percentage of triples made (58%). The technical leaders of this team are the two Americans, old foxes of the Italian championship: Gwathmey (13 points and 5.6 rebounds in 33 minutes on the court) and Graves (13.3 points and 9.3 average in 32′ on the court), 4 dynamic players with a good range of offensive moves, even behind the basket. Serbian-Cypriot Ivana Raca, drafted by the WNBA 2021, has been added to the quintet and has immediately conquered the team, climbing the hierarchy and becoming irreplaceable for coach Zanotti with her 34 minutes on the court with a 10.7 average per game.
A team not very gifted from a physical point of view but very capable of involving all the players on the court with 11.7 assists per game that does not take into account the missed opportunities, combined with steals per game, almost 8.
The last time the two teams faced each other, the stakes were much higher, the passage to the next round of the playoffs, with Virtus losing Game 1 on the road but making up for it with two victories led by Bishop. To find a victory in the championship by Segafredo we have to go back: same time of the year, December 2020, but with a result that smiled at Virtus that won 67-72, again thanks to Bishop and Begic.
