Virtus Segafredo Bologna announces that it has reached an agreement with Cecilia Zandalasini.
189cm forward, Cecilia Zandalasini was born in Broni on March 16, 1996.
She starts in the youth teams of Geas Sesto San Giovanni, winning the 2011 and 2012 national youth championships. In 2012, she moves to Broni before returning to wear the Geas jersey in A2.
In 2014, she signs with Famila Basket Schio: in four seasons with the “orange” jersey, she wins three championships, four Italian Cups and four Italian Super Cups.
On August 29, 2017, she lands in the WNBA wearing the Minnesota Lynx jersey, becoming the youngest Italian basketball player to serve overseas. She immediately gets noticed in America, too, and wins the WNBA Championship on October 5, 2017. Zandalasini became the second Italian to win the American title after Catarina Pollini in 1997.
In the summer of 2018, she returned to Europe, to Turkey with Fenerbahçe: with the Turkish club, she immediately won the championship and was included in the best Euroleague line up in the 19/20 season. She ends her experience in Turkey in May 2021 with the conquest of her second national title in three years.
Best player in the under-20 Women’s European Championship, in Matosinhos Zandalasini wins the silver medal after dragging ItalBasket to the final against Spain in 2016. Making 56 appearances and scoring a total of 592 points with the national team, she closes the EuroBasket 2017 in the Czech Republic with a 19-point average and is included in the ideal quintet of the competition.
